Sustainable Window Restoration on 15th Century Castle
Andy and Anna bought A-listed Monkton House near Edinburgh after falling completely in love with it, and they’re only the seventh owners in more than five centuries. Their dream is to make the castle as eco-friendly as possible while keeping its unique character, focusing first on boilers, solar panels, greenhouses, and, of course, restoring the old sash and case windows. Eco Sash & Case has been chosen to carry out the window restoration.
“Because we run weddings and events, Eco Sash & Case work around our guests, in between bookings,” says Anna. “They mostly operate here but sometimes take the windows away to their workshop in Edinburgh to be rebuilt”.
“They’ve been very good at advising us. Eco Sash has restored the windows very carefully and did a lovely job of finishing and repainting them. The heat retention has improved and guests are finding the rooms noticeably more cosy!”
