Eco Sash and Case is proud to have played a part in the restoration of the historic Silverburn Flaxmill near Leven in Fife. Refurbishment and manufacturing 30 traditional timber casement windows for the landmark project led by FEAT, a mental health employability charity.
The project involves transforming the B-listed former flax mill, originally built in the 1850s, into a vibrant community destination that blends heritage, sustainability, tourism and social impact.
Restoring a Historic Fife Landmark
Silverburn Flaxmill has long been an important part of the local landscape and industrial heritage of Fife. Constructed from traditional brickwork during Scotland’s industrial boom, the former mill had fallen into disrepair over the decades. The restoration project aims to preserve the character and architectural integrity of the building while giving it a new purpose for future generations.
As specialists in traditional timber windows, Eco Sash and Case was commissioned to carefully refurbish and manufacture 30 bespoke wooden casement windows to complement the original design of the mill.
Each window was crafted using high-quality timber and traditional joinery methods, ensuring the finished products met both conservation requirements and modern performance standards.
A Community-Focused Regeneration Project
The redevelopment of Silverburn Park is about far more than restoring a historic building. The project is creating opportunities for the local community through employment, training, tourism and cultural activities.
The site will include:
- The Cottage Window Café
- An award-winning campsite
- A backpackers’ hostel
- Artist studios
- Retail and community-use spaces
Silverburn Park has also become a popular events venue, hosting two annual music festivals that attract over 1,000 visitors and more than 20 artists each year.
