This project involved upgrading nine sash & case windows with double glazing. Dating from 1876, the property is a Category B listed Victorian building, designed by renowned Scottish architect Robert Paterson as the lodge house associated with Portobello Cemetery.
The original sash & case windows remained an important part of the building’s architectural character, but the existing single glazing provided limited thermal and acoustic performance. Rather than replacing the windows entirely, the project focused on retaining the original sash & case frames while upgrading their glazing.
Our team carefully refurbished and upgraded nine existing sash & case windows with heritage double glazing.
The completed works provide improved thermal efficiency, reduced draughts and enhanced acoustic performance, while retaining the original windows and their contribution to the character of this distinctive Victorian property.
This project demonstrates how existing traditional sash & case windows can be upgraded rather than replaced.
